Hi, my name is Quincy Brewer. I am a local resident of Bledsoe County, Tennessee. My hometown of Pikeville is nestled cozily within the Sequatchie Valley in Bledsoe. I grew up learning about history and fell deeply in love. Myths and legends always caught my attention, and the legend of John A Murrell and his Mystic Clan satiated that need. After learning about Murrell from my father and my high school history teacher, I fell even more in love with the bandit. During my research I connected to my local legend on an entirely different level. 

Murrell's Burial County

Murrell passed away in Bledsoe County Tennessee in the year 1844. The quaint town of Pikeville is where he resided. This is a picture of present day Pikeville. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a picture of main street Pikeville from the 1800s.

Murrell's Burial Grounds

Luckily, I was fortunate enough to have been born in the county where Murrell passed. This allowed me to visit and photograph his grave in person with my father. This is especially unique to see  because Murrell was buried the opposite way of the others within the graveyard and his coffin was covered with a slab of concrete.
